One of the key motivations behind acquiring the hotel was to restore and reimagine this 17th Century coaching inn, formerly known as the George Hotel, which changed to the Whipper-In during the ’80s and which will soon become The George Inn.

You will instantly find original features and echoes from a forgotten era as you enter reception. Flagstone flooring, low slung ceilings and lots of oak beams are all celebrated in this first stage of our transformative, yet sensitive approach to inviting guests back to the George.

Turning right, through the George Parlour, you will discover the George Bar.

Gather with friends and family for an evening drink or enjoy an aperitif in the more private alcove tucked behind the bar.

We look forward to welcoming you.

The parlour is purposefully comfortable, a perfect spot to enjoy pre-dinner drinks or to chat away the evening, by the open fire in the winter months.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Maybe you need somewhere quiet to read a newspaper or meet a colleague for coffee? If so the snug, which you can find just past reception, is the place. A perfect spot to plug in the laptop, should you need to.

Next to the snug, with an equally enticing view of the quaint courtyard garden, is the George Dining Room. A spacious room serving exceptional breakfasts and top quality lunches and suppers.

If the sun is out, and a peak through to the garden is too tempting, then a meal outside might be just the ticket.

The garden will offer you a route through to the car park, to the upstairs rooms or our executive deluxe rooms. A skyward glance shows the upper room windows and when you look at the architecture you can imagine the hooves of the horses and the sound of the cartwheels on the gravel.
